Why Do I Dream? at Bondi Feast

(NZ Fringe 2014)

Body-poet Sabrina D’Angelo tells the story of her life (and the life of her story). Enter a bizarre silent film world where bears, bum-worms and Madame Bovary burst forth like hot-air buffoons. Described as ‘Kate Bush meets Mr. Bean’, Sabrina probes into the grand themes of life, love and identity with the grace and zest of an excited toddler. Wickedly funny and heartwarmingly tender, it’s the physical comedy that’s all in your mind.

“An amazing array of physical comedy on display. You will be rewarded with dozens of laughs and get many more as you revisit the stranger moments after you leave.” Crikey

“Will have you in stitches.” The Age

“Horrifically funny.” Time Out Melbourne

“Comedy equals tragedy plus mime.” All mimes

Created with Cal McCrystal (One Man, Two Guvnors) & Justin Heazlewood (The Bedroom Philosopher)

Dates: Thursday 24th July – Saturday 26th July
Time: 9:00 pm
Venue: The Little Theatre, Bondi Pavillion, Bondi Beach

Crazy Bastards

Ep 2 Still 13

Crazy Bastards is a parody of Mad Men, set in a Sydney advertising agency in the mid 80s. It tells the story of how some of Australia’s most iconic ad campaigns were devised, from ‘Solo Man’ to the ‘AIDS Grim Reaper.’ It has all the style and sexiness of the popular television series with none of the budget. The sketch stars Nigel Nailer (Justin Heazlewood) the mysterious head of creative at ‘Nailer & Brown’ agency. He is a slick yet unhinged rogue, prone to elaborate ‘role playing’ and Vietnam flashbacks. His partner is Percy Brown (David McLaughlin) a goofy kiwi in double denim. He offers a cool-head to Nigel’s wilder ideas. Suzie (Sabrina D’Angelo) is their faithful and bombastic Chinese-Italian assistant. Suzie is Nigel’s muse, often providing the missing puzzle piece, and enough politically-incorrect innuendo to poke a stick at.

The three part series was created as part of ABC’s Freshblood initiative and are now available on YouTube. Follow the links for Solo, Snack Packs and AIDS.

The Colour White

The Colour White is an energetic, acrobatic and irreverent physical circus/ contemporary dance performance that explores what it means to be ‘beautiful’.

The Colour White looks at recent media attention given to young non-Caucasian people apparently attempting to look more ‘Western’ by physically altering their bodies and asks, “Is this phenomenon a product of a media over saturated with images that depict Whiteness as beautiful; or an inherently racist suggestion?”

Based on a script by Michelle Lee, design by Tanja Beer, original concept and direction by Gorkem Acaroglu
Created and performed by Vanessa McGregor, Richard Sullivan and Sabrina D’Angelo

Venue: The Mechanics Institute, 270 Sydney Road, Brunswick VIC 3056
Dates: 19 – 22 June
Times: 1:30pm/7:00pm

I Don’t Know What I’m Doing With My Life

A whole year ago I made this music video with musician Justin Heazlewood and animator and film-maker Alesh Macak. Oh, and this curious little dude called Fin. So happy to finally share it with the world.
